NaNoWriMo is Coming
I ran into a dear friend and follower yesterday, and she mentioned how excited she is for my writing projects. I didn't have time to tell her what I've been up to, so I decided it was about time to post an update. I explained to her (and to my mother), sometimes there's not much to tell, and I can't imagine that a daily word count could be intriguing, but we're going to find out.
Starting November 1st is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. I participated in years past, and it's like Script Frenzy in that you have a month to accomplish your goal, which is to write at 175-page (50,000 word) novel. Both events are run by the same fabulous Office of Letters and Light, a non-profit dedicated to helping children and adults reach their creative potential.
So now it's confession time - I don't have much completed on the novel version of Between Souls. In fact, what I do have would not even fill a chapter. This process has been much harder than I thought it would be. I remember thinking I'd be done by now, sending it to the editor I worked with in the past, and well on my way to publication by Christmas. Ha.
What I have been writing has nothing to do with Between Souls, but it has been fun. Procrastination and creativity seem to go hand-in-hand for me. So I look to NaNoWriMo as the deadline I need to get back to work and crank out what's been in my head all summer.
I'm going to redesign the sidebar once this posts, and I'll put up a lovely word-meter so that you (and my mother) can keep track of every word I type next month. Won't that be exciting?!? I know, I doubt it will be, but maybe once I get close to the 50,000, it will be a tiny bit more fun.
And remember that anyone can do NaNoWriMo - and it's free! Just sign up on their page and start writing. Who knows - maybe you'll beat me to the shelves at Barnes and Noble!
