Newspaper Article About +The Prophecy+

Last month when I published The Prophecy, a friend and writer for our local newspaper, The Almanac, asked if she could write an article about me and my book. I was very excited and agreed immediately.

I have to admit, I talked poor Terry's ear off that afternoon. Since I had never been interviewed before, I chatted away on topics ranging from my other manuscripts, job history and the strange and wonderful experience I had when I wrote a screenplay. Thankfully, Terry is a wonderful writer, and she managed to turn my ramblings into a great article that brings it all together!

Please check out the article - and thanks so much, Terry!

Staring Out the Window

I tried to squeeze in a little editing last night before dinner, and I decided to work in the sitting room next to the kitchen. As I often do, I started staring out the windows and I looked at the back yard while I typed. I can imagine the characters interacting in my yard and, as strange as that seems, I can stay in the story longer that way.

Chris noticed my stare and got Sara to look at me, silly mommy, typing without looking at her computer. They both thought it was so funny, but if they only knew how often I typed while looking at something else. At the library, I watch my neighbors check out books. At the bookstore, I watch people order complicated coffees and snacks. In the family room, I end up staring at our Steeler blanket (not sure how that one works, but it does). And if I'm upstairs, I will inevitably turn to the backyard.

Now that I am writing every day, I find that little habits like this one get me into the flow quickly, and I can make more progress in a shorter amount of time. This is essential, especially considering that the release of Book Two, The Chapel, is still slated for late April.

I will try to post more often this week than I did last, but I can't guarantee it. I am on a tight schedule, and if I were to guess based on comments from readers, you would rather have Book Two than multiple blog posts...

Between Souls Newsletter #2 Plus QR Code

It's March 21st and time for another newsletter. I have been busy since last month, and the newsletter describes some of those projects, such as my book trailer, swag, new vendors, and giveaways. For anyone who did not sign up but would like to see what I sent, you can click this link or use the QR code with your smart phone.

March Between Souls QR
What is a QR code? Here's a great description, but basically it is like a square bar code that phones with scanners can read. When you use a QR code reader, your phone is redirected to specific content, such as a web page. I downloaded i-nigma for my iPhone (it was free), but there are more than 15 QR reader apps in the App Store.

This is my QR code for the newsletter. If you have a QR reader on your phone, simply use it to scan the code. You'll see a shortened web address - that's my newsletter page. Click to go online, and you should be taken to the mobile version of the newsletter. From there you can sign up to be on the mailing list or simply read what I've been doing in March.

Thanks again to everyone who has read my book, reviewed it, or spread the word. Now I'm going to get back to work editing The Chapel...

Weekly Wrap-Up: Facebook Address, Contests and an Article

Thanks to everyone who Liked my Facebook page, I was able to upgrade to a custom address! So now you can find me at http://www.facebook.com/BetweenSouls. I plan to post interesting links and any new book trailer videos there, as well as on my regular site and this blog. To make sure you get the latest info in your news feed, go to my page and click the big LIKE rectangle at the top across from the page name.

Also, don't forget to enter the two contests running right now. First, there's the Indie Reads Appreciation giveaway at A Tale of Many Reviews. It ends on the 20th, and I am giving away an e-book and a paperback (with swag).

There's also giveaway on Goodreads.com in honor of Lucie's birthday on Monday. You need to enter before midnight on Sunday to qualify for one of four of my paperbacks. At this point, 762 people have entered the contest, and 113 have added The Prophecy to their To-Read lists. Amazing!

And finally, I was excited in December when I had the opportunity to interview Hollee Schwartz Temple, co-author of Good Enough is The New Perfect, for my local magazine, Upper St. Clair TODAY. The magazine was mailed out this week, and Hollee put a link to the article on her blog, www.thenewperfect.com. I have followed Hollee and her co-author, Becky Beaupre Gillespie, since last spring, and I am so thrilled for them that the official release is just around the corner! I plan to post a review once I receive my copy, so look for that in the weeks to come. For now, you can read my magazine article here.

T-Shirts, iBooks and Buttons - Oh my!

It seems that every day I have news to share about +The Prophecy+. My Goodreads.com contest has over 430 entries! I received a few more star ratings on various sites, and a new review on Amazon.com. And I started working on my book trailer (think movie preview but for my book) and hope to have that available soon.

Big news for my Apple-loving friends - I'm in the iBookstore! So now it's even easier to read +The Prophecy+ on the iPad.

But my favorite piece of news for today is that my Between Souls shop is open for business! I designed t-shirts, buttons, magnets, tote bags and water bottles to go along with the first book, and I hope you like them as much as I do.

I'm adding a link to the shop in the right column and on the www.BetweenSouls.com website, but you can get there easily by going to http://www.cafepress.com/BetweenSouls. I plan to add a few new products as I have time, so if you have any requests, let me know.

I'm also designing a bookmark or a type of functional book card, but I need to use a different vendor and I'm still in the research stages. If you've had good luck with a particular company, please let me know.

I think that's everything. So go enjoy your copy of my book while wearing a Lucie + John t-shirt and drinking from your Prophecy water bottle...

Goodreads Giveaway

Happy Birthday, Lucie!
In my newsletters I mentioned that I would do something special for Lucie's birthday on March 21st. I set up a contest through Goodreads to give away four copies of +The Prophecy+ paperback. Presents for you - yay!

If you have a Goodreads account, all you need to do is click one button and you're entered. If you don't have a Goodreads account, you should! It's a book-lover's paradise - readers can rate, discuss and learn about all types of books. Adding books that you've read is easy, and you can organize your "shelves" by category.

What fascinates me about this giveaway is how quickly readers have added my book to their To Be Read lists. The contest went live yesterday evening, and right now there are over 100 entries and my book is in over 20 TBR lists. So cool. So very cool.

What Am I Holding?

My paperback!

I love the covers and the whole package. I need to proof the inside and double-check a few things, but once I'm finished, I'll give the OK for it to be available at Amazon.com. I'll be back with specifics once that happens.

But right now, I'm just going to hold my book and smile.

March Newsletter Plus QR Code

March Newsletter
I just sent my March newsletter to all subscribers who selected the Alison O'Neill Hess Newsletter on the sign-up form. As I was working on it, I realized it was a little too close to the release of the Between Souls Newsletter, so I am going to change the issue date to the 7th of each month instead of the 1st starting in April.

I wanted to write so many more things in this issue, but a number of projects are still in the finishing stages, so I couldn't. For instance, I wanted to be able to show the front and back covers for the paperback, but since I haven't received the proof copy, I decided to wait to be sure it turned out as good as it looks on my computer.

March QR Code
I am also still waiting for my e-book to move through the approval process to get it out to the iBookstore. Hopefully that will happen very soon.

In other news, I am moving right along with The Chapel. I seem to be on schedule for an April release, but many things need to happen in order before I will be sure.

Here is the QR code for the newsletter for those QR-enabled readers. If you're not sure what this means, you can read my previous post about QR codes. I just used my phone to scan it, and I'm still amazed that it works! I'm not sure I like that everything gets centered, but it is easy to read on my phone.

Back to work - Happy March!
